Not long ago, Choi Yena, a former member of IZ*ONE, released a new album with 'Hate Rodrigo' as the main song. Her decision to name Olivia Rodrigo brought Yena to the attention of Korean music critics.
Choi Yena, former member of IZ * ONE, has released the single album "Hate XX". With Yuqi (G)I-DLE, the title song "Hate Rodrigo", which refers to pop star Olivia Rodrigo, has received pro and contra responses among netizens. Apart from netizens, this song received scathing comments from Korean music critics.
On Wednesday (28/6) at midnight, Jung Min Jae as a music critic and member of the Korean Music Awards selection committee gave his review regarding Yena's song "Hate Rodrigo". Through his personal Twitter account, Jung
"I was curious to hear 'Hate Rodrigo' because Choi Yena boldly mentioned the name of her contemporary and her artwork and concept were clearly influenced by him," said Critic Jung.
When it was heard, Critic Jung gave his opinion on "Hate Rodrigo". According to him, Yena has not been able to show respect for Olivia Rodrigo as expected.
"But the song is very boring and flat. The song is not a tribute or a parody, but a potpourri of shame," concluded Min Jae.
Previously, Yena was the target of criticism from Korean netizens since releasing the title "Hate Rodrigo". Answering many people's questions about her relationship with Olivia Rodrigo, Yena explained that the song was not an insult but expressed admiration for the "Traitor" singer. I was so happy, the singer was jealous of the figure he called.
After the song was released along with the MV, Yena received a lot of criticism. Some suspect that the title "Hate Rodrigo" is a marketing ploy, but many feel that Yena's message has not reached fans yet.
"I think their plan failed ..," said one netizen. "Does that mean we can release a song called 'Hate Yena because she's beautiful, and I envy her? Seriously, use common sense... Why did they choose that (title)?" said another netizen.
Meanwhile, Yena made her debut as a member of IZ*ONE after emerging as one of the winners of the "Produce 48" survival program. After the group temporarily disbanded, Yena started a solo career through the single "Smiley". (wk/inta)
