Red Velvet's training period was filled with challenges and heart-touching memories. Seulgi even admitted that she had to do something outside her nature while she was a senior trainee.
During her time as a trainee, Red Velvet's Seulgi was a senior participant and was in charge of disciplining the trainees because of their status. Not fierce, the idol born in 1994 admitted that he couldn't get angry and was quite burdened.
In the latest episode of 'zzanbro' which was released on July 1, Red Velvet members appeared as guests. Seulgi, Joy, and Yeri reminisce about their early days as trainees. Joy recalled a particular incident involving Seulgi's sincere efforts to maintain discipline among the new trainees.
"During Seulgi unnie's trainee days, when the newcomers acted impolitely, she felt the need to have a serious conversation with them," Joy recalled. "Even though he had to be firm, I remember he was shaking when he talked to them."
Seulgi added her perspective, admitting that she was overwhelmed when she had to reprimand juniors. He even cried when faced with this responsibility.
“There were times when I had to take the role of enforcing their discipline. "Usually, the senior with the highest ranking calls us and teaches us discipline," explained Seulgi. “When it was my turn, I wondered if I should straighten it up. But because of my soft nature, it doesn't feel natural to me. It even brought tears to my eyes.”
Yeri also shared her funny experiences as a trainee, especially when she had to clean the practice room.
"For me, cleaning the practice room is like, 'If I make a mess, I clean it; if someone else does it, they have to clean it,'" Yeri chuckled.
Red Velvet's youngest member stated, "When I first joined as a trainee, having to clean up after other people really bothered me. I felt like an elementary school student mopping the floor, thinking, 'Why do I have to do this?' If it's my own mess, I don't mind, but cleaning up someone else's mess isn't nice."
Drawing on these memories, the Red Velvet members gave fans a glimpse into their early struggles and growth as trainees, showing off their bond and humor amidst the challenges.
Joy also noted the challenges faced by Seulgi and Wendy, who are used to being the youngest in the house, in adapting to their roles in the group. When Yeri joined, Joy recalled a shift in their dynamic.
"At first, we used formal language, but Yeri suddenly suggested using informal language between us," Joy said. "This made a significant difference. Yeri's initiative helped remove obstacles, and our team atmosphere improved drastically. Very refreshing."
Yeri describes herself as a straightforward person, revealing her nickname Ajelim, and her preference for food trucks over prepared eateries. He recalled meeting Seulgi for the first time at the age of 12 when Seulgi had an apple haircut and wore a school uniform.
Looking back at her trainee days, Yeri humorously noted the loss of her cellphone upon debut, which she jokingly attributed to idol seniors causing "exploding" problems with cellphones.
These candid stories on 'zzanbro' provide an insight into Red Velvet's journey and the bonds that have developed between the members over the years.
